Price

Why one Tampa windshield costs more than another

Two cars from the same model year can need different windshields. Here is what moves a Tampa quote, so you can compare like with like.

  • Lane camera

    Driver-assist bracket

A windshield that carries a forward camera has a mount bonded to it at the factory, and the camera is recalibrated once the glass is in.

  • HUD

    Heads-up display glass

Cars that project speed onto the glass need a windshield built to show one clean image. It is a separate part number.

  • Sensors

    Rain and light sensing

Automatic wipers and headlights look through a pad on the glass, and the new windshield must carry the matching mount.

  • Extras

    Quiet glass and wiper heat

Acoustic layers and heated wiper rests are factory options. We match what your car shipped with, not the base version.

  • Insurance

    Claiming it in Florida

Florida's rule is $0 Deductible with Comprehensive Coverage, so with comprehensive on your policy the deductible stays off the windshield. We help you file with Progressive, GEICO, Allstate, State Farm, USAA and smaller carriers alike. Our insurance page covers the details.

  • Self-pay

    Paying yourself

You get a written price for your exact glass before anything is scheduled. Comparing quotes? Ask each shop whether camera calibration is included.

Where chips start

Tampa Bay roads that throw stone

Most cracked windshields begin as one chip from the road. These are the stretches Tampa Bay drivers bring up again and again.

Tampa Bay roads and bridges with the most windshield risk, and why
RoadWhereWhy it matters for glass
Westshore InterchangeI-275 at SR-60, by the airport and Westshore officesFDOT rebuild that began in 2026 and is expected to run to about 2030: lane shifts, work trucks and loose stone
I-4 and the SelmonDowntown east toward Brandon and Plant CityThe I-4 and Selmon connector carries trucks to and from the port, and freight shares every lane
US-301 and I-75 southRiverview, Gibsonton, RuskinTrucks hauling rock and fill to new subdivisions
Howard Frankland BridgeI-275 over Old Tampa Bay to St. PetersburgThe new span is open, but bridge winds push debris across the lanes
Veterans ExpresswayTown 'n' Country north to Lutz and the SuncoastToll-road speeds, so a stone that does come up hits the glass harder

Lane closures change weekly. Check FL511 before a long drive through a work zone.

Uncovered loads

A rock off a dump truck in Florida

Florida's load statute, § 316.520, says a vehicle may not be driven on a highway unless it is built or loaded so its cargo cannot escape. Anyone hauling loose material such as dirt or gravel has to keep it from falling or blowing out, and a close-fitting tarp counts as meeting that duty.

If a stone from a truck cracks your windshield, write down the company name and truck number painted on the door, note the road and time, and photograph the damage that day. We can't give advice on chasing the trucking company for the cost, but those details are the first thing anyone asks for.

Storm season

Booking a windshield between June and November

Summer afternoons around Tampa Bay often end in a thunderstorm, and hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. A few habits keep your install on schedule.

  • Ask for a morning slot. Summer storms usually build after midday.
  • Offer a garage, a carport or a covered level of a parking deck if you have one, so a passing shower doesn't stop the job.
  • If rain is due before your appointment and the crack lets water in, park under cover. Tape is a last resort: plastic on the outside only, kept well away from the camera housing.
  • After a named storm, tell us whether the car is drivable and whether there is debris or a fallen limb on it.
  • Ask the technician about car washes and leaving a window cracked open during the first day.

Humidity changes how urethane cures, so the technician tells you when the car is safe to drive on the day itself.

Lane cameras

Your camera, set after the glass

A lot of the cars on I-275 now have a forward-facing camera for lane-keep, emergency braking or adaptive cruise. Once a new windshield is in, the camera has to be aimed again to the vehicle maker's specifications. If your car's camera needs recalibrating, we tell you up front, before any work starts, and we do it in the same visit where the procedure can be done on site.

When a car needs calibration, it is part of the windshield job and part of your quote. See the Tampa calibration page for the systems involved and what we need on the day.

Windshield questions from Tampa Bay

Questions about a particular car? Call (727) 270-8521 or text a photo to (877) 350-5962.

Is a long crack a reason to get pulled over in Florida?

Florida does not set a crack length. In Hilton v. State (2007), the Florida Supreme Court held that a cracked windshield breaks § 316.610 only when it leaves the car unsafe. A crack across your line of sight or one that keeps growing is the one to replace. We replace windshields only; we do not repair chips.

Do you have Tampa prices listed somewhere?

No, because two cars of the same year can take very different glass. Send your VIN or year, make and model and we quote that exact windshield.

Can you put in a windshield in a downtown or Channelside parking deck?

Most of the time. We need enough headroom to lift the glass in and the garage's OK for vendor work, so give us the garage name and level when you book.

When is the soonest you can come?

Same-day appointments are available in most areas of Tampa Bay. You can request a time online 24/7, and installs run Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm.

What does your warranty cover on a windshield?

Every install comes with our lifetime workmanship warranty for as long as you own the vehicle. It covers our workmanship and defects in the glass we install, but not new damage such as another rock. The full terms are at bangautoglass.com/warranty.
